چکیده

SUMMARY In many problems one wants to model the relationship between a response Y and a covariate X. Sometimes it is diicult, expensive, or even impossible to observe X directly, but one can instead observe a substitute variable W which is easier to obtain. By far the most common model for the relationship between the actual covariate of interest X and the substitute W is W = X + U, where the variable U represents measurement error. This assumption of additive measurement error may be unreasonable for certain data sets. We propose a new model, namely h(W) = h(X) + U, where h() is a monotone transformation function selected from some family H of monotone functions. The idea of the new model is that, in the correct scale, measurement error is additive. We propose two possible transformation families H. One is based of selecting a transformation which makes the within sample mean and standard deviation of replicated W's uncorrelated. The second is based on selecting the transformation so that the errors (U's) t a prespeciied distribution. Transformation families used are the parametric power transformations and a cubic spline family. Several data examples are presented to illustrate the methods.

Discriminative methods are used for increasing pattern recognition and classification accuracy. These methods can be used as discriminant transformations applied to features or they can be used as discriminative learning algorithms for the classifiers. Usually, discriminative transformations criteria are different from the criteria of  discriminant classifiers training or  their error. In this ...

Weakening Additivity in Adjoining Closures

In this paper, we weaken the conditions for the existence of adjoint closure operators, going beyond the standard requirement of additivity/co-additivity. We consider the notion of join-uniform (lower) closure operators, introduced in computer science, in order to model perfect lossless compression in transformations acting on complete lattices. Starting from Janowitz’s characterization of resi...

Two-dimensional nonseparable discrete linear canonical transform based on CM-CC-CM-CC decomposition

As a generalization of the 2D Fourier transform (2D FT) and 2D fractional Fourier transform, the 2D nonseparable linear canonical transform (2D NsLCT) is useful in optics and signal and image processing. To reduce the digital implementation complexity of the 2D NsLCT, some previous works decomposed the 2D NsLCT into several low-complexity operations, including 2D FT, 2D chirp multiplication (2D...

Strongly Additive Transformations and Integral Representations with Measures of Nonlinear Operators

In the development of the representation theory for linear transformations on function spaces by integrals, historically three different stages can be distinguished : in stage (I) one considers scalar valued transformations (functionals) on scalar valued functions, in stage (II) the transformations (stage (IIA)) or the functions (stage (IIB)) assume values in a topological vector space, and in ...

Additivity with multiple priors

The functional defined as the ‘min’ of integrals with respect to probabilities in a given non-empty closed and convex class appears prominently in recent work on uncertainty in economics. In general, such a functional violates the additivity of the expectations operator. We characterize the types of functions over which additivity of this functional is preserved. This happens exactly when ‘inte...
